Driving Innovation in Highways Asset Management

April has seen a busy and rewarding few weeks connecting with road agencies, local highway authorities, and business partners across Queensland and Victoria.
Essency CEO, Scott Bloxsom joined Steve Birdsall (Gaist CEO) and Fiona Birdsall on the long trip Down Under.  They had the pleasure of discussing the evolving challenges and opportunities in highways asset management—particularly in today’s dynamic and often constrained funding landscape. It was refreshing to exchange ideas, share expertise, and explore how technology and smarter data can shape better infrastructure outcomes.
Essency is proud to be working alongside Gaist to bring their market-leading roadscape intelligence technology to the Australian and New Zealand road and transport sector. This initiative will be managed and delivered from our local asset management office in Brisbane, with support from our experienced operational teams in the UK.
Toowoomba – known as the ‘Garden City’ – is a vibrant region located in Queensland, Australia. With a population of over 170,000 and an area spanning more than 12,000 square kilometres, it's one of the largest local government areas in the country. Renowned for its stunning Carnival of Flowers, rich agricultural heritage, and growing innovation hub, Toowoomba represents both scale and diversity when it comes to infrastructure needs.
At Gaist and Essency, we are passionate about supporting regions like Toowoomba with the tools and insights they need to make data-driven decisions that deliver real-world value for communities.
Scott, Steve and Fiona extended a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with them and truly appreciated the insights and hospitality and are hopeful this is just the first of many trips to come.
