Driving Collaboration Across Ireland’s Road Infrastructure Sector

April 2025 saw members of the Essency Team attend the Institution of Asphalt Technology (IAT) Seminar, hosted by the IAT Irish Branch in Athlone.

The seminar provided an excellent opportunity for the team to engage with a wide range of organisations from across Ireland, including representatives from Transport for Infrastructure Ireland, The Department of Transport, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and other local councils.

Discussions focused on future collaboration, with follow-up meetings having taken place to explore joint initiatives in partnership with Essency’s long-standing collaborator, Gaist.

Attendees were offered a forward-looking perspective on the evolution of road infrastructure. Key topics included the introduction of new technologies, trials involving Biophalt (a bio-based alternative to bitumen), carbon reduction strategies, and the impact of climate change on highways — including both road surfaces and pavements.

Steve McKinney, representing Essency at the event, described the conference as a major success. “The seminar not only gave us insight into key innovations in the sector but also opened the door to exciting new relationships. Follow up meetings have taken place with a range of delegates / potential clients and we’re actively exploring opportunities to work more closely with partners across the island of Ireland.”

Participation in events like the IAT Seminar underlines Essency’s commitment to staying at the forefront of industry developments while fostering meaningful partnerships across the UK and Ireland.
