We’re thrilled to introduce Steve McKinney as Associate Director for the UK and Ireland.
Steve is a Chartered Civil Engineer, accredited project manager, Chartered Environmental Engineer and an ICE Supervising Civil Engineer, which will enable him to support the professional development of apprentices, graduates and engineers within Essency’s business.
Steve brings with him a wealth of experience in the Highways Industry including 20 years at Amey, where for 10 years he led their consulting business across the Northwest, undertaking the role of Framework Director for a number of local authority commissions.
During his time at Amey he was responsible for the delivery of a range of high-profile schemes including a number of CHIT and ICE award winners:
- Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Phase 1 & Phase 2 - £65M.
CHIT Award winner for the Strand scheme - Lime Street Redevelopment, Liverpool - £16M
This sustainable transformation won Highways Magazine’s Active Travel Scheme of the Year - Deconstruction of Churchill Flyovers, Liverpool - £7M

His expertise covers a range of multi-disciplinary schemes across civil engineering / highways through design to acting as NEC Project Manager on site during construction.
In joining Essency, Steve is excited to be working alongside an old friend and former colleague and client, Fernando Nunez, again. Fernando heads up the Essency business in Spain. Steve and Fernando began their work together at Amey’s Belfast office in 2010, when Fernando joined on a European exchange programme from Spain. They continued their working relationship when Fernando left Amey to work for Liverpool City Council in 2016, becoming Steve’s main point of contact for the client.
